Born in 1935 in Warsaw, he was first recognized at 22 for his poetry volume Conventions,<\/em> published in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a. In 1967 he announced his literary creed in the book Czym jest klasycyzm. Manifesty poetyckie.\u00a0[What is Classicism. Poetic Manifestos.].<\/em> The author of many collections of poems, the best known being: Thema regium<\/em> (1978), Ulica Mandelsztama [Mandelstam\u2019s Street]<\/em> (1983), Moje dzie\u0142o po\u015bmiertne [My Posthumous Work]<\/em> (1993), Znak niejasny, ba\u015b\u0144 p\u00f3\u0142\u017cywa\u00a0[The Sign Unclear, the Fable \u2013 Half-Alive]<\/em> (1999), Zach\u00f3d s\u0142o\u0144ca w Milan\u00f3wku\u00a0[Sunset in Milan\u00f3wek]<\/em> (2002), Wiersze polityczne\u00a0[Political Poems]<\/em> (2010), Pastuszek Che\u0142mo\u0144skiego\u00a0[Che\u0142mo\u0144ski\u2019s Shepherd Boy]<\/em> (2014) and, published in 2015, Koniec lata w zdzicza\u0142ym ogrodzie\u00a0[The End of Summer in a Garden Gone Wild].<\/em>.<\/p>

His two novels, written in the eighties and published underground: Rozmowy polskie latem\n1983\u00a0[Polish Conversations in the Summer of 1983]<\/em> (1984) and Umschlagplatz<\/em> (1988), attracted a great deal of interest from readers and have been translated into French, German\nand English.<\/p>

Rymkiewicz included the results of his vast work as a literature historian in his volumes of essays and encyclopedic writings, devoted to Mickiewicz, S\u0142owacki, Le\u015bmian and Fredro. He worked in the Literary Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, from where he was dismissed in 1985 (employed again after 1989). In 1994 he was awarded the title of Professor of Humanities.<\/p>

In the first decade of the 21 C, he wrote his famous historical essays: Wieszanie\u00a0[The\nHanging]<\/em> (2007), Kinderszenen<\/em> (2008), Samuel Zborowski<\/em> (2010), Reytan. Upadek Polski [Reytan. The Fall of Poland]<\/em> (2013). A lot of valuable thought he left in his 1983 essay Wielki Ksi\u0105\u017c\u0119 z dodaniem rozwa\u017ca\u0144 o istocie i przymiotach ducha polskiego\u00a0[The Grand\nDuke, With Some Musings on the Essence and Virtues of the Polish Spirit].<\/em> (1983).<\/p>

Author of dramas and comedies, almost incessantly played in the National Theatre since the 60-s; his U\u0142ani [The Lancers],<\/i>(directed by Piotr Cieplak) are still on nowadays.<\/p>

He translated a lot of world literature into Polish, among others the poetry of Thomas S. Eliot and Wallace Stevens, Osip Mandelstam,\u00a0 Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca and of the dramas of Calder\u00f3n de la Barca. He lived many years in Milan\u00f3wek, which he loved and where he died on February the 3 rd , 2022.<\/p>

For his work he was rewarded numerous awards, among others: The Ko\u015bcielski Award (1967), Stanis\u0142aw Vincenz Award (1984), Zygmunt Hertz Award (1986), Nike Award (2003), and in 2015: Julian Tuwim Award as well as the Literary Award of Warsaw, of which the latter he refused to accept for political reasons. In 2016 he was awarded the Lech Kaczy\u0144ski Award. In 2022, the Parliament of the Republic of Poland \u2013 in a resolution adopted by acclamation on 9 February \u2013 commemorated the poet and recalled his outstanding creative output.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
